Got yer little-known OS X hints right here
MacOSXHints.com might not be new to those OS X users out there, but I just had to reiterate my love for this site. Being a long-time user of Eudora for my email needs, there are a lot of features that I’ve grown to love so much that even though Qualcomm continues to, well, not make it the best application it could (used to) be, I’ve refrained from jumping to another client.
For instance, Eudora has long offered the ability to use what they call “Personalities”. Basically, this feature enables you to send email from one account, but make it appear as though you sent it from a completely different account. Normally, this sounds somewhat nefarious, but if you use an email forwarding service (like …@alumni.bates.edu for all those Bobcats out there) it’s quite handy (and not so nefarious!). If you use this feature to make it appear as though the email you sent came from the forwarding service, people receiving your email won’t get confused and stop using the forwarding email address. While there are email clients out there that also offer this feature, I’ve never found one that I’ve been completely happy with.
Now when OS X finally hit the streets, as a past enthusiast of NeXTMail, I was curious to see what OS X’s included mail client would be like. It wasn’t fantastic, but there was an obvious commonality with its predecessor. Time went on and Apple put a lot of work into improving Mail so it’s now a pretty strong contender. I finally decided to really play around with it and was disappointed to see that there was no such “Personality” feature noted in the UI or in the Help system. On a lark, I searched around on MacOSXHints.com and was surprised to find this undocumented hint. Short, sweet and it works without incident. Huzzah!

oh that’s going to be very useful for me. thanks!
